Does Freezing Great Coffee Ruin The Flavors?

Does Freezing Great Coffee Ruin The Flavors?

One of the most common questions we get is how to store coffee. There isn’t a one size fits all answer here.

If you happen to have more freshly roasted coffee on hand than you can drink in the next 4-6 weeks, freezing is actually a fantastic option to preserve the freshness and vibrancy of your coffee.

I’m attaching my favorite video on the topic made by James Hoffman. He explains in perfect detail the best way to go about freezing coffee, and the reasons why you might consider doing so.

In short- freezing coffee is the best way to preserve freshness long term

Here’s one way to try this out at home:

1. Buy a five pound bag of coffee, and split it up into smaller bags that you can store in the freezer Make sure your storage containers are airtight and have any excess air removed from them!

2. Whenever you need a fresh batch of coffee you can remove your small bag of coffee to the counter where you can brew it right away.

3. Grinding from frozen can be a great way to improve the quality of your coffee further, so no need to wait until your coffee is thawed to prepare it.

Have you ever frozen your coffee to make it last longer? Did someone tell you to never freeze it because it would ruin the flavor? What do you think?
