How to Grind Coffee: According to Science

Want to know how to make a tastier cup of coffee? We’re always on the hunt for tips and tricks that will make coffee taste even better.

Luckily for us, we have help. Chris Hendon, IE “Dr. Coffee” lives in Eugene, Oregon and has been studying the chemistry of coffee for years as a part of his research at UO.  He discovered something incredible- adding a touch of water to coffee before grinding can make your coffee taste better. All you need is a small spray bottle.

Here’s a great video that explains everything:

Here’s a concise summary: spray a bit of water on your coffee before you grind it, and it should be less messy to grind, and produce cleaner, tastier results in the cup.

We are incredibly lucky to have Chris Hendon here in Eugene exploring the world of coffee and chemistry.  He’s been working on some incredible new research at his lab. Most recently he has been using electricity to measure roast levels and brew strength in coffee.  Who knows what else is out there to discover.
