Will Tariffs Make Coffee More Expensive?

Hey there coffee drinkers,
Lately we have had many of our friends and customers ask us about tariffs and how they may change things at their favorite local coffee shop.
First, let’s start with the basics. Tariffs are a fee placed by the government on incoming goods. It’s a straightforward idea.
When it comes to coffee, it appears all the coffee we buy will be 10% more expensive, with some origins becoming more expensive still. This is a fee that we will be paying to the federal government for any green coffee we purchase from farmers and importers before we roast it.
Can we source and roast coffee grown in the USA and avoid paying a tariff? Simply, no. It’s not feasible. If we get enough people asking us for more information it might be a topic in an upcoming informational newsletter. Write in and let us know if you would like to know more.
It’s not ideal, but we’re optimistic about the future. As a business, we’ve dealt with far greater challenges, and these tariffs will not cause major changes for us, as far as we can tell. We remain hopeful that this is a very small bump in an already long bumpy road.
Whatever happens, we want to assure you we will do everything we can to source delicious coffees and have them available at prices. As long as people still drink coffee, we will be here roasting up the good stuff.
